Days of GoodBye

Buddy's uncle passed away last week after a long illness so we traveled to Dallas to the DFW National Cemetery for his funeral.  If you've never been to a Veteran's Cemetery, you owe it to yourself to go.  It was most impressive and absolutely beautiful.  I was pretty amazed at how they continually run services through there.  We had 30 minutes before another funeral was scheduled for the pavilion.  I believe I heard it said while we were there that close to 1000 veterans die a day.  I'm telling you, we were on sacred ground.

We finally had to "let go" of Bridget and send her on to Rainbow Bridge where she can run through the sweet green grass and breathe easily.  The Cushings had taken it's toll on her.  She was a good one!
Happy Trails...

  1. Sorry to hear about your Bridget, she will no longer suffer from her illness. Love the view from your header picture of the line of trees.

  4. Sorry to hear of both your losses. I too attended a funeral of a WW11 veteran last week. The Marine taps was beautiful. Today our town is burying a 23 year old son killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan recently. The honor guard flag group has adorned our thoroughfares with US flags. There was another last fall.
    Too many funerals...young and old.

  7. Sorry for the loss of your uncle and your sweet Bridget.
We have a Veteran's Cemetery near us at Ft. Huachuca and have attended several funerals there, including my dad's. It is a VERY moving experience.

  9. Berte - I'm sorry to hear of both of these losses. We're losing more and more veterans every day. Of course, there are more young ones becoming veterans - unfortunately it has to be this way. I'm sorry about your horse, too. I know she was a sweetie - its hard to let our animals go like that.
