R & R on a farm?

Awww....they've got it a little rough, don't you think?
With our oldest grandson here at the farm, we're trying to teach him how to be safe while here.  Too many animals and too many ways for someone to get hurt.  Well, it happened.... I've been trying to teach him not to throw his arms up when coming at the horses and he did just that with a halter and rope while I was standing on the other side of my mare at her shoulder.  All I remember is her shoving me out of the alley-way of the barn so she could get away from him.  When I came to, it took me a while to gather my thoughts that nothing was broken.  Back to the house I went.   Huge knot on the left side of my head and the entire left side of my body bruised from falling on my left side.  The right is also bruised.  Must have been the horse hitting me.  I thank God that I was not hurt more...it could have been a lot worse.  After three days of a powerful headache and aches and pains, I'm making it just fine.  Have to keep moving to keep from getting stiff.   ugh....
Hopefully, there will be lots of lessons learned hanging out with Grandma.
Happy Trails...
Berte

  2. oh, but i hate that it was YOU that got the pain. i think the lesson would have learned better for him if he had felt a little. i'm sorry, but glad it was not more serious!

  7. Safety first we try to tell our weeones here on our farm. Thank God you are alright. I remind the weeones everyday to watch the animals and respect them. It scares me how many things are on the farm that can hurt us, but it also helps me that they are learning so much at the same time.

On a better note, your horses are beautiful and your farm seems to have the same disease as ours the little farmers keep bringing more home. our hearts open and let them.
Take care and enjoy your weekend.

  9. Wow, glad you are getting better and I hope grandson learned a lesson about scaring the horses, even though it wasn't intentional...

  10. I had a horse once who would spook if you modified your headgear - put on or took off a hat around him. Never could get my young cousin to behave, and I got thrown twice and had to calm down a spooking horse several more times when he'd either intentionally wave his hat cowboy style or forget and take off his helmet in front of the horse. Takes some people longer to learn than others...
