Summer Boredom set in with the Grandkids?

Please tell me someone remembers this game. My husband thinks I'm crazy. One of the grandkids came and told me earlier that he was bored and there was nothing to do by himself since his brother is totally absorbed in a book. And it's too blasted hot to go out and play so I pulled out a plastic gallon jug and some clothespins. Yes, when I was a kid we used to play drop the clothespin in the bucket. Well, you woulda thought this was a new invention! Grandma's pretty smart! He's been playing this now for about two hours and so proud of himself for getting the clothespins in. Truthfully, I had no idea he would enjoy it this much! Maybe you've got little ones around that might be entertained with it too.
Happy Trails..

  1. I will give that a try for sure when my grandpunks are here and get bored!!! They usually don't get bored here because there's so many animals to play with ;0)

  2. How very smart! Hurray for you! We didn't play that, however, I do remember playing with my mother's buttons on a string. Not much to it, but it was lots of fun! Also laughed about you hens laying their eggs everywhere but the nest boxes...mine do that kind of thing to. Gotta love em! blessings,Kathleen

  3. Hi! Thanks for the visit over on my blog! I played this cloths pin game with my girls at a birthday game one time..simple games are the most fun! You could always learn how to make papers guns, I did that last summer with the grandboys..they are 7 and 10, almost the same ages as yours. I enjoyed reading here this evening and I will be back again, It is nice to meet you, the music was great!! :)

  5. Hey Berte - I played a variation of this game as a child, too. I remember it being fun. Hey, do you remember those old string tricks where you thread em through your fingers and made a cup/saucer, and a jacobs ladder? Do they know those? Paper airplanes, paper boats, pick up stix, do they like to draw/paint? I spent all my spare time doing that when I was young.

Hey, I'm really enjoying listening to your selection of music. Right now, "Lonesome Dove" is on. It was on TV a few nights ago. They did a marathon of the series in a couple of nights and I watched all of it. I love "Lonesome Dove". I don't know how many times I've watched it!

  6. I am old enough to remember it. I don't remember it being 2 hours worth of fun though...

Thank you so much for all the kind comment you have left on my blog. I swear - if one more bad thing happens - I am going to rename the thing the "Oh Crap - What Now?" blog.

  7. That's great, Miss Berte- you are the coolest grandma ever!
I remember being at my Mammaw's house when we were small, there was never a dull moment because she had millions of "homemade" games like that in her head- it was so wonderful having a grandmother like her!!
