Just How Hot is It?

It's hot enough to start cooking an egg before it ever makes it into the house! Now that's hot! And if the heat is starting to cook eggs, what is it doing to my animals? I'm getting only two eggs a day so I'm gonna have to start catching them when layed to have any eggs! The forecasted temp for today is 107. This is dangerously hot to do anything outside.

Buddy had a big job scheduled for the next four days and it fell through..I'm almost glad he's not going. I know that God is watching over us and will provide. Times are tough for everyone.

Want some good news? This is too cute! When I went to close up my chickens last night, I noticed that one of my first batch hens (Dec '09) has adopted Pong. I've never seen that in chickens but I'm thankful. Not that he needs the heat from the underside of a mama but just that he has that sense of protection.

Happy Trails...

  1. Now that is hot. I hear it hit 110in Dallas yesterday.

Even here in east Tennessee, where the temps seldom top 96, Cindy has begun taking an ice chest to the grocery store with her to keep the eggs and such fresh until she gets home.

    Hang in there!

  2. Such a cute picture of Pong! Hope you stay cool! It is hot and the drought has not let up here. Such a harsh season. blessings, Kathleen

  3. Yuck at your temps! I do not like heat.

I don't think our area ever gets to 100. Close sometimes, yes. Yesterday was much cooler with cloud cover and a drizzle most of the day. It was a nice break from the heat. I'm still not sure what today holds. I go day by day and don't bother listening to the "forecasters".

I'm so glad Pong has an adoptive momma! Little ones need someone to feel protected.

    Blessings, Jessica

  4. Hi Berte. I think one of my hens was a victim of the heat. We found her dead and without wound in the coop. So sad.. but I was truly glad that she did not get killed by a predator since they free range during the day. Stay cool. Last evening at 7:40 it was registering 101!

  6. Hi Berte - it said 110 on my car yesterday afternoon...

I love Pong - you should make up stories about little Pong. It would make a good children's book!

I love how that mama hen took him under her wing!
