It's been so hot here that the only time to get anything done outside is at sun-up or near dark. The ground is so dry is cracks under your feet. It seems that even the dirt is brittle. Since there's no grass left out in the back for the horses, I decided to turn them out in the yard yesterday since I was home. As you can see, there's not much grass in the yard but they loved what was there.
Ahhh, yes, a day to stay home and get some things done. I didn't have to go anywhere and it was wonderful. I got a chance to get some more things done in the house. Buddy and I have been going out to the storage container early on Saturday mornings when it's cool enough to even attempt to go in the container to get more boxes to unpack. No, we're still not completely unpacked but getting there. Buddy is so anxious to get things up on the walls. Since this house is much smaller than our last one, it's deciding what goes up and what gets kept in boxes. When Buddy and I go antiquing, I'm always on the lookout for good old linens. I recently acquired a bunch so dug through them and found that some of them go perfectly in my house. The kitchen valance are vintage napkins draped across a tension rod. Maybe you can click on the picture to see that there are red embroidered strawberries on the points.
These old lace tablecloths worked great for the bedroom. I still have two more windows off to the right side that I will have to find something for. I'm one of those folks that nothing has to match...the more mixed up it is, the better.
In the next few days, I'll be going through all these linens and adding to our store so stay tuned...
Happy Trails...
Berte, I love what you did with those napkins over your sink; just too pretty! I have a hard time hanging stuff, so my daughter (Return Home) does it for me most of the time. In fact, she rearranges a lot of stuff for me!
ReplyDeleteBut she has good taste:)
My family still all lives in Texas and I hear a lot about the drought.
Hope things improve; these cycles have come regularly throughout the history of that region.

I don't miss the drought, but I sure do miss Texas. Even the heat. At least in Central Texas the heat was dry. mid-eighties to low nineties here in Eastern NC with this humidity make it feel just awful.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking really nice.
ReplyDeleteI love that bed!!!!! Like how you are using things in a different way from what they were made for. I am not creative enough to figure things out like that.
ReplyDeleteHi Berte - I like your valance in both your kitchen and bedrooms. I did the same things with an old tablecloth - white w/blue edged cutwork - and made a drape to hang over the bathroom cabinets. I took the doors off. I used one of those old vintage pillowcases with the crochet flowers on the edges to make a valance for my kitchen window. For the front door window I sewed several white cutwork napkins together to make a valance. I think it's all those little touches that are special and money-saving and of course CUTE! You and I sure think/decorate alike!
ReplyDeleteYou are so creative! Love what you did to the kitchen and bedroom!
ReplyDeleteOooh! You have such lovely and creative style. Come over and help me decorate, please?
ReplyDeleteI get overwhlemed by clutter, so I'm always so afraid to add too much to a room, and keep things so sparse everything looks bare and without personality. I could use some creative assistance. hint-hint! heheh!
Sorry about the heat and lack of water in your area. We've been in the mid 90's during the day, but we do have some nice breezes. And then by nightfall we drop down into the low 60's....brrr! I have to get under all the blankets to stay warm at night. lol!
That's the high desert for ya, though.
Do your nights stay cool, too?
We could use the rain, like you, for sure. We usualy have summer monsoons by now, but all we're getting is lightning....which is scary with everything being so dry. You know what that means: fire danger. gah!
Here's to rain! Maybe we can get the horses to do a rain dance?

I am truly loving the "Lonesome Dove" theme. Makes me not want to leave your site--and go pop in my DVD! Love your bed! Sheep C.
